John Duncan - Preaching Minister

I hope to meet you when you visit our church family at Gateway.  Allow me to tell you a bit about myself.  Amy and I moved to Ruidoso in 1993.  Over the past three decades I have worked at Gateway as the youth minister, the worship minister and more recently as the preaching minister.  My desire is to join God in building His Kingdom, to teach the Word as a means to knowing Christ better, and to experience the joy of the Spirit every day.  We have two children; Raina and Josh.  When I am not working I love to ski, ride bikes and fly fish with Amy.

Rob Duncan - Worship Minister

My wife, Tami, and I moved to Ruidoso in April of 2022 from Boulder, CO., where I served as the preaching minister for a small church. Before that I had the honor of getting to do youth ministry for over 20 years (and therefore, am bald). Tami and I met @  Lubbock Christian University. We have 2 awesome children - our daughter Irish (who lives in Flagstaff  with her husband) and our son Boston (who lives in Nashville). My ministry goals are to help bring others into a deeper, richer and more passionate relationship with God, Jesus and the Spirit through praise, biblical poetry and meditation on the Word. When I am not working, I enjoy trail running and snowboarding and the gift of living in beautiful mountains for over 20 years.

Twylla Wetzel

Twylla Wetzel - Secretary

My husband Paul and I started our life together in Ruidoso and recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary.  Soon after getting married, we moved to Artesia where we were youth ministers for a couple of years. We moved back to Carrizozo to help with the family feed store and trucking business.  While in Carrizozo, Paul preached for the Church of Christ close to 15 years before we moved to Ruidoso.  We have been in Ruidoso over 20 years.

God blessed us with a daughter and son and we have 8 grandchildren who all live here.  I was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom while our kids were growing up.  We homeschooled and were honored to see them graduate.  We are so blessed!!  Life is short!!  Take every moment you are given to spend time with your family, your kids and grandkids.

I have been the full time secretary for 6 years and I filled in part-time as needed prior to that.  I hope you feel like you have come home when you step foot in the door.  We have people who will meet you with words of encouragement and love, wrap their arms around you if you are need, pray with you.  Gateway is a place of refuge, a place to heal, a safe place.  For others it is the only friends or family they have.  It has been said, Gateway truly is a family like no other.  We look forward to seeing you.

Gayla Skeen - Director of Christian Services

I am Gayla Skeen the director of Christian Services. Before becoming the Director in July of 2022, I served as a volunteer, then as an assistant. I really enjoy helping those in the community who are in need and helping them see that God is always with them. I have lived in Lincoln County since 1995.  I have a wonderful husband and 2 amazing adult children.  Before coming to Christian Services, I served as a volunteer and employee of Capitan schools for a total of 18 years.  I have served as a board member on the Capitan PTA and NMPTA.

My wife, Jackie, and I moved to Ruidoso to be closer to our family in 2000, and after our visit to the Gateway church, we knew we had found a new family of loving people that we wanted to be a part of. It was the beginning of a new life for us, filled with challenges of being a part of the teaching program of the church and cultivating and being enriched with a host of new friends. Being part of an effort to spread the love of God through the message of Jesus Christ has been the most rewarding part of the long life God has blessed me with. Someone accurately conveyed truth when he wrote

β€œThe best use of life is love; the best expression of love is time; the best time to love is now.”

Sara Spoerri - Assistant Director Christian Services

I am an east coast girl, but was always in love with mountains, which explains why I have lived in places like Switzerland, Wyoming, Costa Rica, and now Lincoln County.

I am a mother of two, and grandmother of two. I retired from dental hygiene in 2013 after nearly 40 years of cleaning teeth. My career was very good to me, but at present I am enjoying working at Christian Services, after having been a volunteer for about 8 years.
